Miscarriages and  Crib Deaths

"Map 1 shows the number of miscarriages occurring at Love Canal. Each black dot represents one miscarriage.  The families located in the ponded area had multiple miscarriages. Women who moved to Love Canal had a 300% increase in miscarriages."
"LCHA ( Love Canal Homeowners Association) also examined the pregnancies that occurred between January 1979 and February 1980, the construction period. This study found that out of 22 pregnancies occurring among Love Canal women, only four normal babies
were born. The rest of the pregnancies ended in a miscarriage, stillbirth, or a birth-defect child."

"Map 2 indicates homes where birth defects occurred. When comparing the number of birth defects in historically wet areas with homes outside these areas,Love Canal had three times the amount of birth defects. No birth defects were found in homes located on the stream bed that did not cross the canal. 56% of the children born to mothers in these areas were born with birth defects."
