The Hooker Chemical Company established a plant on 16 acres in the city of Niagara Falls in 1943, producing chemicals for plastics, pharmaceuticals, and water disinfectants.
They buried their waste in the unfinished canal.
This business remained active, employing hundreds of people in Love Canal until 1953.
